A young, troubled man’s journey from the streets to the pulpit…
Mike’s best friend and partner in crime is Andre. Both Mike and Andre knew that they were living in contradiction to what they had been taught growing up, and eventually Mike came around. He first got a taste of the voice of God when his mother, one day frustrated with him, packed his bags and drove him down to Oakwood College (a Seventh-Day Adventist college in Huntsville Alabama).
Mike remembers being jumped in by the Crips (a gang). He still has the injury in his arm today because they beat him so hard. He remembers him and his sister waiting for their father to come and he never showed up.
His mother died while he was in school, so she never got to see him graduate although she was alive when he told her that he discovered his call to ministry. She had remarried a few times after his father and he didn’t really have good experiences with her other husbands.
But Mike didn’t change right away. He got really bad grades his first semester and at one point he sat out school for an entire year not knowing if he would be able to get back in. He was so discouraged that he was considering joining the army and one day he went to a service on campus and the message was “Don’t Turn Back.” Soon after, they let him back in school.
This is Mike’s Story—His testimony of how God pulled him from the Streets to the Pulpit.
